Formations
“Stand where you were made to stand. I will do the same. Between us we are most of a Sanctuary.” — The Seamkeeper’s Codex, a letter from the wall
The shape of a formation
Section titled “The shape of a formation”The formation editor gives you five slots: 2 front, 3 rear.
- Front slots take Vanguard Guardians. In battle, the front line — your Vanguard plus all your troops — absorbs the enemy’s damage.
- Rear slots take Mystics. They’re protected by the front line and deliver their special strike every third round.
You don’t have to fill every slot, but empty slots are wasted synergy and wasted damage. Five is almost always right.
Synergy: match Guardians to your army
Section titled “Synergy: match Guardians to your army”Every Guardian boosts troops of its own element by +8% — stacking per Guardian. Formation-building starts with one question: what are my troops made of?
| Your army leans | Take | Synergy on your core |
|---|---|---|
| Ancient Guardians (Earth) | Valerius + Boulderfast / Oracle + Gaia | up to +32% |
| Biolume Sprites (Water) | Tidecaller / Nerida + Maraval | up to +24% |
| Sylvan Stalkers (Fire) | Emberguard / Kyra + Cinder | up to +24% |
The triangle: match your army to the enemy
Section titled “The triangle: match your army to the enemy”Earth → Water → Fire → Earth. Attacking into advantage: +30%. Into disadvantage: −20%. The enemy’s dominant element decides which applies — and monster nodes have known compositions, so check before you march.
Three formations that work
Section titled “Three formations that work”The Stone Wall (vs Water snarls, or when you expect to get hit hard) Valerius + Boulderfast front · Oracle + Gaia + one flex rear · Ancient Guardian troops. Maximum synergy on the tankiest troop, Earth advantage vs Water. Slow, safe, cheap to heal.
The Riptide (vs Fire snarls) Tidecaller + Valerius front · Nerida + Maraval + Oracle rear · Biolume Sprite troops. Water core with Earth backbone; Nerida acts first nearly every round.
The Pyre (vs Earth snarls, or when you want fights over fast) Emberguard + Tidecaller front · Kyra + Cinder + Nerida rear · Sylvan Stalker troops. The damage ceiling: Kyra’s attack plus Cinder’s special every third round. Fights end quickly — one way or the other. Watch your Font capacity.
